THE WAR IS ON: MATH vs THE NUKKAD WAY

Classwork: 2+2

Homework: 28+40

Exam: If the distance between the sun and the moon during the Summer Solstice changes by two degrees and decimal of the answer of the two trains running at the same speed changes by 3 places right, solve for x.

“YEET”

~ A universal reaction of every student solving math

We may have grown up and forgotten about him, but he still lives and grows his roots deeper and deeper, instilling fear into the minds of the innocent. There lives an older, powerful and ancient immortal entity that left our minds empty, eyes teary. Yes, it is the bane of every student’s existence: the value of “x”, who resides in the folds of the boss level villain, THE MATH TEXTBOOK, who feeds on the tears of innocent children. But the new generation believes in creating an armor for the younglings before sending them to battle this immortal enemy, using the one thing, the wolfsbane of maths’ existence, FUN and GAMES.

This is why here at Nukkad Pathshala we believe in bringing this armor to our kids. We toss the traditional methods of solving math out of the window and focus on helping the students look at it as just a human (because it’s easier to break them down) and not an immortal being.

The reason why maths is always dreaded is because, unlike other subjects, it is just numbers on a black and white paper, with numbers twisting and turning into more numbers.  It is a psychological fact that humans tend to understand better with visual aids, which is why chose to make learning basic math an activity, using as many creative methods as possible.

When we said division, we MEANT division. To have a better understanding of division, we have set up a fun way to simplify the process. By using dice, paper, and bowls, our students have won this battle against math. They would take a sum and use the same number of dice as the bigger number and divide it by placing them into the same number of bowls as the smaller number.

Move aside Cat’s Cradle, there’s a new shape forming technique in town, All Aboard the Shape. Our students learn shapes and their formation by using a string and placing it in a correct form on a board with pegs nailed all over it.

With great pains and constant trial and error, we have weakened this boss level villain and have claimed some victory over it. History has borne witness to the relentlessness of the immortal being and although we may have won today, the subject is like Hydra, chop one head off and 2 more turn up. This is a battle for the long run and boy are we prepared.

Fear us for we march with geometry boxes and strings in our hands, and fun plastered on our minds.
