Online Mentorship Program
Our ‘Pathshalas’ were started with the mission of delivering quality education at every doorstep. Thus, our centers are located in remote interiors and our students often do not have the resources to learn English. We have developed an online mentorship model to help them become fluent readers, writers, and speakers of the language.
The Mentorship Program is divided into 3 modules and each one is completed in a duration of 3 months.
Our mentors have to volunteer two hours a week, for a period of three months. All teaching material is also provided for the sessions.

Who can be a part of the mentorship program?
Nukkad Pathshala is looking for individuals who are passionate about creating an impact and addressing the education inequity and inequality in India. All applicants must meet the following criteria:
You must be over 16 years of age.- You must be committed to giving 2 hours of your time every week for a period of 3 months.
- You don’t need to have a background in teaching to be a mentor at Nukkad Pathshala. Our mentors come from different educational and professional backgrounds but should be interested in creating an impact.
- You must be fluent in Tamil and English.
- You have access to a smartphone/Laptop/PC and internet connection.

What our mentors have to say
I am a mechanical engineering graduate. After completion of my course, I decided to prepare for the Civil Services Examination. After I had started my preparation I was following a monotonous schedule and wanted to do something rejuvenating. And that’s what this whole experience has been - rejuvenating. I had incidentally heard about the program through a friend, and as I was meeting all the requirements I applied and was lucky enough to get selected for the program. The whole worth of this program lies in the fact that you get to teach brilliant children how to express themselves. Each and every time they learn something new, you feel a sense of accomplishment. English and they say is truly a funny language. But that is what it is, a language which is nothing more than a tool. But a necessary tool, in that it helps us to communicate with a larger audience. I hope that programs like these are taken up by institutions in our society which will help in the holistic development of the young.

The kid’s interest and eagerness to learn English made the whole experience of teaching kids in rural areas an amazing one. The kids were very enthusiastic when they were given an opportunity to express their ideas. Especially, the drawing sessions were their favorite, they drew their ideas and explained what they had drawn, showcasing their creative side. With lot’s of encouragement through cheers and compliments, the students were very motivated and forthcoming to speak in English and learn from their mistakes. Personally, I had lots of fun interacting with the kids. Creating an impact in the lives of those children, even if it was little was extremely self-satisfying. Thanks to Nukkad Pathshala for this amazing opportunity!

I have found this experience of volunteering for Nukkad Pathshala truly gratifying and joyful. I did not know I could take the responsibility of imparting my limited knowledge to such enthusiastic and responsive children and be a part of something bigger than myself, and contribute to the society in this manner. Teaching the English language, knowing that it will help the children become better communicators and improve their opportunities in some way, is the gift I get to take away from this program, and for that I'm thankful.

I have had a very pleasant experience being a mentor in the Nukkad Patshala program. I was really impressed with the way technology is being used to provide complementary tools to children from really disadvantaged parts of society.
I was really skeptical during the first class on how effectively I will be able to reach out to the class, but with the Zoom app as well as the support of the facilitators at the class it was easy and I would say effective as well.
The class material being shared earlier also helps to be prepared in advance for the class. This material is also in line with the needs of the selected class. The step by step procedure to be followed also helps in keeping the discussion going on with the class after the material has been covered.
