Only in Kind

“A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions and the roots spring up and make new trees.”
~Amelia Earhart

With this quote in mind, our students immersed themselves into the theme of this month: Kindness. Each day, new and engaging activities helped them understand and carry out acts of kindness, from compliments to lending a helping hand to their family, they did it all.

The Kindness Calendar aimed at not only engaging the students with certain acts of kindness but also helping them show appreciation to the ones they love. For each activity the students completed, the day on the calendar was colored as a colorful reminder. In addition to this, as a sign of appreciation and motivation, our students received a star on their performance chart, displayed in class on completing the activities.

On Monday, kindness turned into words, with each student cheering their peers with compliments or jokes.

On Tuesday night, our students took matters, or rather food into their own hands, helping their mothers with dinner, which not only became an act of kindness but also a form of appreciation for everything that they have done for their children.

Wednesday was greeted by toothy grins as our students smiled at everyone they saw throughout the day, the simplest and most powerful way.

Did you know the word Thursday comes from Norse mythology, meaning Thor’s day. This day was special since our students became the gods of their talents taking turns to teach their peers things they excelled in.

Gogh would be proud since Friday saw the inner artist in each of our students as they made paintings for their friends. With an explosion of colors, from animals to landscapes, the talent would put professionals to shame.

Saturday might just be our student’s favorite time of the week because they got to feed stray animals. From small puppies to cows, they had a field trip playing with these kind creatures.

Sunday saw an unusual Funday as the toys were abandoned and our students lent a helping hand to their family members in their work.

By the end of the month, unlike Selena Gomez, who believes in killing with kindness, our students chose rather non-threatening sounding acts of kindness to act out. Through words, toothy grins, unleashing their inner artist, feeding the stray animals and helping their family, the students learned all that there was about kindness and how even the smallest acts of kindness could change lives or grow trees as Earhart preferred.
